what if

so i watched another dance movie. if anyone knows me...when i watch dance movies, i get up after the movie and replay back all of the routines that are embedded into the back of brain, the ones that i used to show off in during classes, or the ones where i won this place or that place at dance competitions.

what if?

what if i had never suffered two bad injuries?

i was in the city of houston ballet for 13 years. i started when i was three. i was known as the tall girl, with the slender and lean build--the dancer's body. i was also known for my perfect turnout, my triple-rotation pirouettes, my fouettes, my point, my gracefulness. i could imitate any dance...jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet...

now it's all a memory and tears well up in my eyes when i realize that i had something great. something i loved. and it's all gone. should i have had surgery? could i be as good as everyone thought i would turn out to be later on in life?

i can't even get into fifth position without feeling the strain in my knees. i miss people wishing they could even do a single pirouette like me...crisp, beautiful, graceful, done.

what if?
